Opera in Malta

Lately there is a lot of going on in the opera world in Malta.

Firstly here was an opera gala commemorating Verdi and Wagner which was performed by Malta Philharmonic Orchestra along with local and international singers. It took place in Grandmaster Suite in Hilton Hotel, Portomaso which surprised me as I haven’t realised that there is a room like that which can host classical and not only concerts in that part of the island.

In October there will be two live performances of whole operas in Gozo:

– first one this Saturday 12th October- Falstaff with the international and local cast and Philharmonic Orchestra in Aurora Theatre

-2nd one the following week 24th and 26th October- Otello as will with the international and local cast and Philharmonic Orchestra in Astra Theatre

There still maybe some tickets left so if you’re an opera fan, these are the productions you cannot miss. I am personally still toying with an idea to attend Othello as on 12th October there is also Birgufest which I heard is pretty amazing and anyway I might have difficulties getting to Gozo on time as I work  till late on Saturdays.

The last but not least there is the new venture of Manuel Theatre- Teatru Manuel Youth Opera which offers two hours classes every Saturday for talented singers to work on different excerpts of operas. I am happy to say I am now a part of this classes as one of the pianists and we are working on Le nozze di Figaro by W.A. Mozart.
