MPO and MYO in concert

On Friday evening we went to listen to the concert on St. George Square in Valletta. The joined forces of Malta Philharmonic Orchestra and Malta Youth Orchestra presented a program of all times favorite. I guess even people not really familiar with the classical music could enjoy listening to pieces that they know from movies and etc. The square was packed, the weather conditions were great, as always, with the light breeze. There was a built stage were orchestra performed under the big tent and you could also watch the close ups on the screen next to the stage. The performance was a big success, followed by the encore performance from the all time favorite Carmen.
As some of you know, Maltese seemed to be crazy for fireworks, doesn’t matter if it’s a day or night, the fireworks or petards are the must. The day of the concert was even better as it was the bank holiday- the feast of Peter an Paul which means more fireworks/ noise than ever. Just before the start of the performance, the fireworks started. The conductor faced the audience and made some faces, and after a while he begun the concert. It was amusing, I have to say;) And in the whole, quite nice performance although the brass, well they are always in the spotlight, could have made more effort to stay in tune and hit the right notes, but it’s mostly the case, isn’t it?
